Registration Process

Calm Waters Student Support Groups are FREE to all participants

Complete & Submit the Registration Form 

  • Complete the form for each child.
  • If you are currently enrolled in another Calm Waters program (counseling or center support groups) please email Program Coordinator Abby Tooley as you will need to register through an individualized link from our client portal.

Wait for Notice of Group Assignment

  • Groups will commence once at least five students within the child’s age group at their school are enrolled.
  • Student Support Groups begin at each partner school’s discretion. Each school may host as many 8-week support groups as needed.
  • Once there are enough students registered in your child’s age group, Abby Tooley will email you to let you know they will be in group this semester.
  • If your child’s school did not get enough enrollments for group, Abby Tooley will reach out via email to notify you and send additional resources/options for assistance.

Who to Contact with Questions

  • If you have questions about your student specifically (i.e. progress, concerns, etc.) or their group (i.e. group schedule, group concerns, etc.), please contact your student’s school counselor.
  • If you have questions about the Calm Waters curriculum, how we do groups, or our facilitators, please reach out to the program coordinator, Abby Tooley.
  • Continuing the Conversation sheets will be sent out via email throughout the semester to caregivers with information about group topics and give conversation tips/questions.

Program Information

The goal of Calm Waters Student Support Groups is to teach grieving children coping skills they will use the rest of their lives.

Attendance in a Calm Waters Support Group often helps students process their feelings and experiences, with the goal of positively impacting coping skills, behavior, and achievement.

Types of Loss

Groups are open to children who have experienced loss due to:
  • Death
  • Divorce
  • Deployment
  • Deportation 
  • Incarceration
  • Foster Care & Adoption
  • Immigration/Refugee Status

Student Support Groups are led by highly-trained support group facilitators.

We send Calm Waters facilitators or train school counselors to provide Student Support Groups. All groups follow Calm Waters’ custom-written curriculum.

If you would like to receive the 4-hour FREE support group training to facilitate a student support group, please register to become a Calm Waters volunteer or email Program Coordinator Abby Tooley.
